Highlights

  • The university represents the greatest single concentration of academic resources in Denmark, with a teaching staff of over 2,100 and a student body of more than 37,000.
  • Although Copenhagen is a capital city, everything is close at hand, including museums, historic buildings, shops, restaurants, the canals, the famous Tivoli Gardens and the Little Mermaid.
  • Each year, 16,000 UCPH students and staff get together for the annual Spring , which is the biggest event at the University of Copenhagen.

Credits

Credits at UCPH:

  • Full-time option (7.5 UVic units): 30 ECTS per term at UCPH
    *Exchange students must register in at least 25 ECTS per term to meet .

Course Evaluations at UVic: 

  • Before departure, UVic students will be able to submit exchange courses to UVic for evaluation. The results will indicate how many UVic units each exchange course is worth, as well as the course equivalency.
  • Students must use the evaluation results to ensure their exchange courses credits add up to the equivalent UVic units. The total number of units for each exchange term should be 4.5 UVic units for part-time exchange or 7.5 UVic units for full-time exchange.
  • This course evaluation process will be made available and explained in detail during the pre-departure session in early October for Spring exchange terms and in late March for Fall exchange terms. Evaluations take 2-6 weeks to complete and will be emailed to students. 
  • Course evaluations results are tentative until the end of the exchange term, when a second, final evaluation is conducted by OREM using the students’ exchange transcript, and the results are applied to their UVic record.

    • UCPH's International Office can assist in finding alternative off-campus accommodation in shared flats and halls of residence.
    • UCPH works with the organisation Housing Foundation Copenhagen, who provide accommodation to students. All exchange students automatically receive an invitation to apply for accommodation via Housing Foundation Copenhagen.

Immigration, Medical Insurance & Arrival

Immigration:

  • Non EU/EEA students must apply for a residency permit to study in Denmark for an exchange stay lasting 1 or 2 semesters. 
  • The rules are slightly different depending on a) which country you are a citizen of, and b) how long your stay is.

  • Shortly after you have been admitted, UCPH will send you the residence permit/visa application form with instructions on how to apply.

Medical Insurance:

  • The Danish healthcare system covers international students at the University of Copenhagen who are staying in Denmark for more than three months.
  • Exchange students studying for longer than three months can obtain a civil registration number (), so that they can receive medical treatment in Denmark.
  • what is covered via CPR, and topping up coverage with supplementary medical/travel insurance before leaving Canada is recommended! 

Orientation:

  • UCPH strives to give all new students a warm welcome and to make sure that they are informed about all important details of their stay, including both academic and social matters.
  • Each student will be invited to an orientation when they begin their studies at UCPH, which includes information about getting around on campus, what it’s like to live in Denmark, the academic culture at UCPH, etc. 
  • Orientation is a great opportunity to connect with other international students!
