Akash is a graduate student in Mechanical Engineering at the ßÉßɱ¬ÁÏ, working under the supervision of Dr. Phalguni Mukhopadhyaya. Born in Odisha and raised in Punjab, India, he brings a diverse cultural and professional background to his work in sustainability and engineering.
Before joining UVic, he worked in India’s manufacturing sector, leading projects in product development, process optimization, and lean systems. In 2024, he was selected as a UVic Sustainability Scholar, where he collaborated with the Office of Campus Planning and Sustainability to design a campus-wide electric fleet transition strategy. He also contributed to enhancing the university’s food procurement data systems to support STARS-aligned sustainability reporting. His work was featured in UVic News:
Currently, his research focuses on air leakage detection using acoustic imaging and broadband sound source techniques to improve energy efficiency in buildings.
Outside of academics, Akash loves playing cricket and enjoys planning spontaneous, budget-friendly adventures, chasing cheap thrills through hidden cafés, offbeat trails, and weekend explorations around Vancouver Island.
