Area of expertise
Green chemistry, bioplastics, extraction, biopolymer, sustainable solutions
Hayley is a Chemical Engineer with over four years of experience in production optimization, chemical plant, and refinery systems management. At Ecolab, she supported feasibility study reviews, design modifications, and water treatment improvements for clients in the petrochemical, utilities, and energy sectors. Her Ph.D. research focuses on optimizing extraction methods for alginate-based plastics and investigating kelp as a sustainable feedstock, including how species and growth conditions influence alginate yield and quality.
She has also worked on developing safer chemical alternatives to mitigate biofouling in water treatment systems. Hayley taught a graduate-level course on Green Chemistry, Biomimicry, and Industrial Symbiosis as a Sessional Lecturer in the Industrial Ecology program.
