New paper on great ape behavioural responses

February 04, 2025

New review paper on the responses of great apes to anthropogenic impact and consequences thereof.

We found that wild apes are increasingly foraging on crops, crossing roads and altering nesting and ranging patterns resulting in increased stress, injury as well as death. We then discuss the long term implications on wild populations and the need for more research on the effects of behavioural responses by apes to changing environments.

Led by UVic Anthro’s BSc. Hons. student Miranda Gilbert and head of the GAB Lab Dr. Ammie Kalan.
