About
Hi there! My name is Rebecca (you can also call me Reba!) and my pronouns are they/them/theirs.
Born and raised on the Saanich Peninsula, I have been a guest on unceded Lekwungen and W̱ŚANÉC territories for most of my life. I have also lived in Ireland and in New Brunswick (Mi’kma’ki, the unceded, ancestral territory of the Mi’kmaq).
I have been an Anglican my entire life and began discerning a call to priesthood as a teenager. In June 2025, after discerning for half my life, I was ordained a priest in the Anglican Diocese of Islands and Inlets. Priests are those who hold holy things: we hold holy symbols and objects (bread and wine, oil, water, hands in blessing). We also hold joys, sorrows, tears, hopes, confidences, hands, and all of the sacred stuff of everyday life. I like to think of my priestly ministry as one of walking alongside people and pointing out this holiness of the everyday, and I am delighted to serve the UVic community in this way.
I hold a BA in Religious Studies from Mount Allison University, and a Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts in Indigenous and Interreligious Studies from Vancouver School of Theology. I consider myself deeply rooted in the Anglican tradition of my upbringing, with an expansive curiosity and openness to the wisdom of other traditions.
As a 2SLGBTQIA+ person of faith, I am particularly committed to the creation of safe spaces — both theological and literal — for my queer siblings and others whom Christianity has historically marginalized and harmed. In my theology and my preaching, I am constantly working to let God out of the closet of cisheteronormativity and white supremacy that we so often trap Them in.
I am also a poet, an avid reader, and a lover of dogs and tabletop role-playing games. You can find me at Pet Cafe, Around the Table, and haunting the shelves of local bookstores.
Office hours are by appointment; reach out anytime.
