My 13-year old dog (Maltese-poodle mix) has the coolest name: Marvin! I adopted him 10 years ago. He is a big piece of my heart and one of the first friends I made after moving to Canada.

About Hui (Herbie)

I grew up in a small river town called Yichang in China. Twelve years ago, I attended a UVic info session, and fell in love with the campus right away. The same year, I bought a flight ticket and visited Victoria as a tourist. I actually received my admission offer to study at UVic while visiting the city!

As a student at UVic, I had the best time, and it made a huge difference to be supported by my professors, advisors and classmates. Everyone was so generous and kind, which helped me feel welcomed as a new international student.

Victoria is a beautiful place to live, and the city has the nicest people! There are always events and activities going on. At the same time, it's easy to be close to nature, which is very important to me!

My advice to future university students

It is okay to make mistakes and it is okay not knowing. The process of trying and experiencing will bring you so much joy and connect you with so many people in the most wonderful way.
