Public Administration - online (MPA)
Our online MPA is a course-based program for active professionals ready to develop a leadership career with purpose. You can complete this full-time degree while working, integrating your learning and putting new expertise into practice immediately.
You'll explore the theory and practices of policy analysis and public management, focusing on topics of governance, policy, management, research, economics, finance, human resources and communications. By completing 2 courses per term, you will complete your MPA in under 2 years.

Outcomes
The online MPA course-based option focuses on the topics of governance, policy, management, research, economics, finance, human resources and communications.
Throughout the program, you will develop professional writing and research skills. You will put new-found knowledge and expertise to practice immediately in your own work environment.

Admission requirements
Program specific requirements
- a minimum of three years of full-time public sector or non-profit work experience
- GMAT or GRE results, not more than two years old if you do not have an undergraduate degree from a Canadian institution
If you do not have a Canadian undergraduate degree, you will need to write and submit your official GRE (Gradute Record Examination) or GMAT (Graduate Management Aptitude Test) scores.
Note: if your grade point average is below B+ or you hold a 3-year undergraduate degree, we may consider your application if you have four or more years of relevant professional experience- refer to the UVic academic calendar for information on other admission types
As part of your application, you must submit:
- three references: two academic referees and one professional/community referee
- if it has been more than five years since you last attended a post-secondary institution, you may have three professional references in place of academic referees
- in your application, include the names and email addresses of your referees
- Graduate Admissions will send your referees a link to upload their reference letters (preferred) and/or complete an assessment report
- unofficial transcripts all post-secondary institutions
- a letter of intent describing why you are seeking an MPA and how the degree relates to your career plans, personal values and goals
- a professional résumé
