Welcome to UVic! You'll find resources new undergraduates and new graduate students on the main student website.

Online learning

We use Brightspace to deliver our online courses. Using Brightspace, you will:

  • review your course notes
  • join discussion forums
  • submit your assignments
  • keep track of your grades
  • link to online readings

For some courses, you will meet fellow students online for a seminar or discussion. Other course materials can include text notes, PowerPoint presentations, streaming audio, video or audio podcasts and online debate tools.

All methods of communication are possible within Brightspace: email, text messaging or phone.

International students

Welcome to Canada. In addition to regular orientation programming, you can participate in a program designed for you.

The International Student Welcome introduces you to UVic staff and students who will help you settle into life at UVic.

Indigenous students

In addition to regular orientation events, Indigenous students are invited to attend Indigenous Student Orientation. Events include the Week of Welcome for Indigenous students, which starts during the second week of classes.

Get your student ID card

Your university photo ID is called a ONECard. It’s your official identification card and campus debit card, and you'll use it throughout your full course of study. It’s also your bus pass, meal plan card, library card and athletics pass.

Student groups

There are over 150 clubs on campus dedicated to environmental, cultural, political, religious and recreational causes. Get involved with student clubs and organizations.
